The basic premise of Dr. Stone is set thousands of years in the future, after a mysterious light transformed all of humanity into stone. Senku Ishigami, an exceptionally intelligent teenager with incredible knowledge in science, awakens from petrification to find himself in a world that has reverted to the Stone Age, with nature having reclaimed control. Senku, with his unwavering spirit and the conviction that science can save humanity, sets out to revive civilization from scratch. Along with his physically strong friend, Taiju Oki, and others he revives, he attempts to recreate technologies and inventions from ancient times to the modern era, facing the challenges of the wild and other revived humans with different ideologies.

Senku is accompanied on his quest to revive civilization by various key characters, each with their own unique abilities. Taiju Oki is Senku's best friend, who possesses immense physical strength and stamina, as well as unwavering faith in Senku, making him ideal for manual labor. Yuzuriha Ogawa is the girl Taiju loves, skilled in crafts and sewing, offering practical skills. Later, they meet inhabitants of the Stone World, such as Kohaku, a strong and brave warrior, and Chrome, a young science-magician who becomes Senku's apprentice and assists with inventions. Together, this diverse group works towards the advancement of science and the restoration of humanity.
