The basic premise of Jujutsu Kaisen is set in a world where Cursed Spirits, beings born from negative human emotions, cause chaos and destruction. Yuji Itadori is a high school student with unusual physical strength, who lives a seemingly normal life until, to save his friends from a Cursed Spirit, he swallows a cursed object, a finger of the powerful Cursed Spirit Ryomen Sukuna. As a result, Yuji becomes Sukuna's vessel, gaining access to terrifying powers, but also posing a deadly threat. Under the guidance of Satoru Gojo, a powerful Jujutsu Sorcerer, Yuji joins Tokyo Jujutsu High with the goal of finding and swallowing all of Sukuna's fingers to permanently eradicate him, beginning a dangerous journey into the world of curses.

The main characters of Tokyo Jujutsu High who accompany Yuji Itadori and form the central team of the series are Megumi Fushiguro, Nobara Kugisaki, and their teacher, Satoru Gojo. Megumi Fushiguro is a Jujutsu Sorcerer with a calm and calculating nature, capable of manipulating shadows and summoning shikigami (animal spirits). Nobara Kugisaki is a dynamic and independent Jujutsu Sorcerer who uses nails and a hammer to exorcise curses, with a strong personality. Satoru Gojo is the strongest Jujutsu Sorcerer of his era, with incredible powers and a carefree personality that hides his immense ability. Together, these three students and their teacher undertake dangerous missions to protect humanity from curses.

Cursed Energy is the spiritual energy born from negative human emotions, such as fear, anger, sadness, and despair. It is the driving force behind the powers of Jujutsu Sorcerers and the source of existence for Cursed Spirits. Cursed Spirits are entities born from the accumulation and concentration of this negative energy. The more intense and concentrated the negative emotions in an area, the more powerful Cursed Spirits can be created. These spirits pose the primary threat to humanity in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, causing violence and destruction, and must be exorcised by Jujutsu Sorcerers.

"Domain Expansion" is one of the most advanced and powerful techniques in Jujutsu Kaisen, accessible only to highly skilled Jujutsu Sorcerers. When activated, the user creates a private, spatial barrier that forms a separate domain, within which the user's techniques become absolute and their attacks are guaranteed to hit the target. Inside a Domain Expansion, the rules of the world change and the creator has an absolute advantage. For example, Gojo's "Unlimited Void" traps opponents in a space where they receive infinite information. Activating a Domain Expansion requires vast amounts of cursed energy and is a move that can instantly change the tide of a battle.
