Shinobu Kocho is the Insect Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, known for her unique combat style and venom-based techniques.Although she lacks the physical strength of other Hashira, she makes up for it with speed, intelligence, and expertise in pharmacology.She appears calm and kind, but hides deep hatred for demons due to her sister’s death.She is inventive and methodical, and her fighting style relies on precision and strategy.

Shinobu is the only Hashira who cannot decapitate demons due to her low physical strength. Instead, she developed a specially modified Nichirin sword with a needle-like blade that injects lethal poison.Her venom is made from wisteria flower extract, which is highly toxic to demons.She uses her knowledge as a doctor to eliminate demons effectively.

Kanae Kocho was also a Hashira and the most important figure in Shinobu’s life.After Kanae’s death by an Upper Rank demon, Shinobu changed significantly, developing a harsher and colder demeanor behind her gentle facade.Still, she honors Kanae’s memory by caring for Kanao and continuing her legacy.

Shinobu adopted Kanao Tsuyuri along with Kanae, offering her refuge and training at the Butterfly Estate.Although she often seems strict, she deeply cares for Kanao.She taught her discipline, compassion, and survival techniques. Their relationship is similar to that of a mother and daughter or an older and younger sister.

Shinobu appears kind even toward demons, but this kindness hides anger and grief.She harbors deep hatred due to the loss of Kanae, yet she has expressed a wish for a world where humans and demons could coexist in peace.Though she seems like a pacifist, she acts with absolute resolve in combat.

Shinobu dies during her battle with Doma, one of the Upper Ranks.However, her death is part of a plan: she had saturated her own body with a massive dose of wisteria poison to kill him from within.Her action ultimately leads to Doma’s defeat by Kanao and Inosuke. Her death is seen as heroic and vital to the final victory.
