Tanjiro Kamado is the main protagonist of Demon Slayer, a young demon slayer known for his strong moral compass and compassion. After his family is slaughtered by demons and his sister Nezuko is turned into one, Tanjiro vows to find a cure for her and eliminate the demon threat. He is defined by his kindness, relentless perseverance, and his ability to recognize the humanity even within his enemies.

Tanjiro starts by mastering Water Breathing, but eventually discovers and inherits the powerful Sun Breathing (Hinokami Kagura). Sun Breathing is the original and most potent of all breathing styles, allowing him to perform deadly strikes with immense speed and power. He also possesses an extremely refined sense of smell, which helps him detect threats or emotional cues.

Tanjiro’s relationship with Nezuko is the emotional core of the story, representing unconditional love and protection. Despite her transformation into a demon, Tanjiro never abandons her and fights to keep her safe and cure her. Nezuko, in turn, stays by his side and fights for humanity, demonstrating the strength of their sibling bond.

Unlike many slayers, Tanjiro doesn’t see demons solely as monsters but acknowledges the tragedy of their existence. He often mourns for his enemies, especially when he sees the remnants of humanity in them. His empathy sets him apart as a hero and offers a more humane, yet equally powerful, approach to fighting.

Tanjiro plays a central role in the battle against Muzan Kibutsuji, the originator of all demons. He endures superhuman pain and continues to fight even when all seems lost. In the end, even after he is briefly turned into a demon, he manages to return to his human form. His resolve ultimately saves the human world.

Tanjiro begins as a simple, kind-hearted teenager and grows into one of the strongest and most principled demon slayers. Through loss, hardship, and battles, he retains his values and develops incredible mental and physical strength. Despite the horrors he faces, he never loses his humanity.
