The basic premise of Aggretsuko follows Retsuko, a red panda of 25 years old, who works in the accounting department of a Japanese trading company. Retsuko experiences the nightmare of modern corporate life daily: she has a demanding and sexist boss, annoying colleagues,excessive workload, and a sense of dead end. To cope with the stress and rage she accumulates, Retsuko has a secret hobby: she goes to a karaoke bar after work and sings death metal. The series presents her daily frustrations, her attempts to improve her life (even to find a husband), and her funny, yet often sad, interactions with her peculiar colleagues, reflecting the pressures of Japanese work culture with humor and authenticity.
