Muzan Kibutsuji is the main antagonist of Demon Slayer and the first and most powerful demon to ever exist. He is the leader of all demons and the origin of the curse that transforms humans into demons.Though he appears calm and refined, he is ruthless, self-centered, and extremely violent. He seeks eternal life and eliminates anyone who threatens his ambitions.

Muzan was turned into a demon during experimental treatments for a fatal illness, but the medicine had terrifying side effects. Instead of curing him, it granted him supernatural powers and immortality, yet made him vulnerable to sunlight. Since then, he has obsessively sought a way to conquer the sun and become truly invincible.

Muzan possesses immense strength, speed, regeneration, and control over demonic cellular manipulation. He can shape-shift, instantly heal, and kill with a single touch. He also has the power to create and control demons through his blood, and can monitor or eliminate those who disobey him.

Sunlight is the one thing Muzan cannot endure, as it instantly and irreparably destroys his cells. This weakness makes him vulnerable despite his apparent immortality. That’s why he tries to absorb or create a perfect demon who can withstand the sun, like Nezuko.

The Twelve Demons form Muzan’s main military structure, divided into Upper and Lower ranks. He grants them power and monitors them through his demonic energy.He is harsh and threatening, often punishing or killing them if they fail. To Muzan, they are mere tools for achieving his goals.

Muzan is ultimately defeated in the final battle through the coordinated effort of the Hashira, Tanjiro, and their allies. Though he proves extremely difficult to kill, he eventually falls to persistent assault and exposure to sunlight. His end symbolizes humanity’s triumph and the conclusion of the demon era.
