Genya Shinazugawa is a member of the Demon Slayer Corps and the younger brother of Wind Hashira, Sanemi Shinazugawa. Unlike other slayers, he cannot use Breathing Styles, but possesses unique abilities that allow him to fight demons effectively. He has a rough and aggressive personality, yet deep down he carries emotional trauma and guilt from his past.

Genya possesses the rare ability to consume demon flesh and temporarily gain their powers. This ability allows him to regenerate, become supernaturally strong, and develop demonic traits. He also uses weapons like shotguns and Nichirin blades, tailored to suit his unique combat style.

Their brotherly relationship is deeply strained and filled with emotional trauma, with Sanemi harshly rejecting Genya in an effort to "protect" him. Despite this, Genya cares deeply for his brother and wants to prove himself worthy. Their story develops into one of the series' most emotional and powerful arcs.

Genya plays a critical role in the battle against Upper Rank 4, Hantengu, working alongside Tanjiro, Nezuko, and others. Thanks to his abilities, he survives otherwise fatal wounds and helps neutralize demon clones. His contribution proves vital, despite his lack of traditional techniques.

Genya and Sanemi witnessed their mother transform into a demon and kill their siblings. Sanemi killed her, but Genya, unaware of the truth, blamed him, creating a deep rift between them. This childhood trauma haunted Genya and shaped his path as a Demon Slayer.

Genya dies heroically during the final battle against Upper Rank 1, Kokushibo. Despite his crucial contributions, his powers weren’t enough to save his life. His death devastates Sanemi but also offers hope, as the brothers were finally reconciled before his end.
